A NEW CUSTOMER, A NEW FRIEND AND A FUN SWAP!

So, I order this fabulous necklace from Molly at Miss Molly's Designs - I had to have it, I loved it.
So, she goes to my etsy shop and places an order with me and after exchanging some emails and becoming blog friends *we really hit it off* we decided to have a One on One Swap!
It was so much stinkin' fun!!

I wanted to show you this simple, different, yet gorgeous necklace that Molly made (I found it in her etsy shop). She made all of the links, has added fabulous beads and this wonderful old key. I love the simplicity and the use of a found object, the color of the beads............okay, I just love it!!!

And, now for my swap items from Molly!
Look at all of this!
It's all so wonderful - the square bingo cards are stiff cardboard *never seen anything like them*, the found objects (yea!!), a wonderful copper square that's been etched (stamped?) with the definition of "celebrate", other metal pieces (yea!!), these wonderful turquoise wee bitty bird beads and the clear gold "rhinestones", the retro' metal pink flower, these awesome buttons AND the container the necklace came in with the necklace so you can see it one more time:).
We're going to do it again, we had so much fun doing it the first time!
And, I want to do a destash - heck, I could do more than one of those! LOL
Go visit Molly's Etsy shop - she has a real gift! And, her blog, wonderful reading:)

Thanks for sharing in this wonderful swap with my new friend, Molly.

And, my loyal readers - gosh, I love y'all!
xoxo, Jan

WHEN MY BOYS START GROWING UP DOES THAT MEAN THAT I'M NO LONGER 24?

*COMMERCIAL BREAK: COMPUTER'S ARE STUPID. SOMEHOW MY 'PUTER ATE MY TEXT FOR THIS POST. I WILL NOW RE-WRITE IT. IGNORE MY ATTITUTE.*

Blake, our middle child, graduated this month from the University of Mary-Hardin Baylor.
Now, that might not be interesting to many of you, but to me? It's totally worth blogging.

Blake is an amazing person, someone you would be blessed to know - everyone that knows him would tell you that - he's simply awesome in ways that most of us strive to be every day.

Okay. The pictures.
I'm going to give you a description of the photos and leave it at that. No more "text" except for pic descriptions.

Let's start with the flowers that were in our room when we got to Killeen the day before the ceremony. They were laying on the bed with a card and note from our dear son.
I felt like Barbie - flowers in the room.

I'm the one that found the vase.
Frank Two Pies aka Frank the Tank, enjoying the room.
Blake's sweetheart of a friend comp'd us the room and it was such a blessing.
Thank you, again!!
Clay was lovin' the TV - there was a basketball game on - I was really glad that we didn't have to watch HGTV or some nonsense like that.
A very proud mom and a very proud daddy with Blake after the ceremony.
Blakers and Clay. Clay is a sophmore at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor.
I get to do this one last time in three years.
Whoop.
Uncle John (the Tank's brother), me (John is always asking for my kisses), Blakers and daddy.
Craig *he's there in spirit - he had to stay in San Angelo and catch bad guys and couldn't come*, me, Blakers, Clayman and daddy.
The whole family.
Sorta.
I knew you'd want to see yet another picture of me, Blake and daddy.
I aim to please.
This is a picture of Brat, Blakers and Will.
Brat (short for Brittany) is like Blake's best friend.
Will is Brat's understanding boyfriend.
We all love Will.
Brat is like a daughter to me. She's wonderful.
Ahhh, Uncle Emil, Blake and Aunt Melinda.
Melinda is my cousin and one of my fave fives on my phone.
They live in Belton where UMHB is and they were always there if Blake needed anything and actually, they made it so much easier to leave him at college his freshman year especially, knowing they were there.

Melinda and I have been close all of our adult lives and they've both been "Uncle" Emil and "Aunt" Melinda to all of our boys. They're wonderful.
This is a picture of Greg and Laura's precious daughters. I have momentarily (yeah, right) forgotten their names, but they were at the PAR-TAY that their parents threw for Blake at the fitness center after the ceremony.
Friends of Blake's from the fitness center digging into the amazing food that was prepared!
Blake and one of the patrons of the center.
She adores Blake.
Look at the smile on Blake's face.
Enough said. Let's move on.
Brat with her baby.
Oh, wait, that's not unmarried Brat's baby. I'm sorry, Brat. Editorial mistake. ROTF

This is Greg, Blake's boss, who threw the party along with his precious wife, Laura.
I only got to speak to him for a few minutes, but in that short time I could see why Blake admires him so much.
He's standing with the sweetheart (for those not in the know, when I can't remember someone's name, I call them sweetheart. It works better in person and not so well when blogging.), and Blake's good friend, that comp'd us the room at the hotel. Of course, I adore him!
There was so much food at the PAR-TAY. It was amazing.
They had set up grills out back and bar-b-qued chicken and ribs! Shut up! I know!

They went to so much trouble putting on this celebration that I was humbled to think, no, to know, that they think so much of Blake.
In line for some of that amazing food!
What a special day it was! Everyone had so much fun celebrating this milestone of Blake's! I hope by looking at the pictures you felt like you were there with us because I would have LOVED to have had all of my readers there!!
I love you dearly, readers! Thank you for being so consistant and supportive of my blogging efforts!

XOXO, Jan

WHAT? DO I HAVE A SIGN ON MY FOREHEAD???

I've been tagged again! Yep, I get to stop what I'm doing to tell y'all six fascinating things that you might not know about me.

I don't think I need to list "I can be sarcastic at times". What do you think?

I adore my tagger! She's a precious woman that I am happy to be tagged by. *note: does it bother you as much as it bothers me to end a sentence with a preposition like I just did in that last sentence? BUGS ME TO DEATH. I'll be up all night.* I just couldn't think of a clever title for this post.............."I'VE BEEN TAGGED!".

I think that one's been used.

So, the rules are for me to link back to Summer Sunday's blog, which I just did.

Okay, got that part right.

Now, I am supposed to list six other bloggers that I want to know more about so that they can tell all of us six fascinating things about themselves.
It was tough, but I chose:

1. Rowdy Robin at A Robin's Nest
2. Sweet Susi at Star Dust & Moon Beams
3. Mahvelous Mindy at Rockin' M
4. Sweet Tina (it's so who she is!) Sweetina Veronica
5. Darling Deb at the Junkin Yaya ......okay, one more......
6. Always giving Abbie at The Vintage Moth

Whew. That's finished......except now I have to email everyone and tell them they've been tagged - I'm always cementin' friendships.

Okay. Six things that you might not know about me.
This is not going to be easy because I'm rather humble and not one to brag, but, heck, I've been asked, so here ya go......

1. Through my mixed media art I support seven poor families. I am that good.

2. I swam the English channel last year. Naked.

3. I have translated the Bible into five languages.

4. I have personally given birth to 16 children and they were all boys.

5. The walls in all of my bathrooms are painted yellow. (think about it)

6. And, last but not least, none of what I've told you is true. The only truth is that I love blogging and hopefully I made someone laugh as they read this list because I really love to make people laugh.

"Goodnight, Jan."
"Goodnight, readers."

XOXO,

BLOG WINNER A-A-A-N-N-N-N-D DON'T FORGET TO LOOK UP!

May's blog giveaway was this precious stamp set below - oh, how I love it!
I did the drawing last night with the help of my best friend, Annette (she picked the number - always helping; that's just who she is), and the *excited* winner was CAROL O'CONNELL of Vintage Crafter! Yea for Carol!! And, she's from Canada which I think is so cool (well, until I get to the post office) - I'm making friends all over the world with my giveaways and that's the most wonderful thing! (I wonder how far away my farthest away reader lives???)
Oh, and don't forget that I have decided to have a giveaway EVERY MONTH!
Big WOO HOO!!
.....And, now the second part of this post............a fascinating story follows. LOL

Frank the Tank has been out of town this week so I've been in charge of watering his babies......his tomato plants (oh, please). So, I'm standing there watering them, probably not the right way, the gentle way...........I simply laid the hose in the container and let it fill with water and then moved to the next container. (DON'T TELL!) Anyway, I'm standing there just thinkin' about important stuff...you know, stuff like 'do these tomato plants make my butt look big?'...'what excuse can I think of to get out of making dinner? "oh, darn, Tank, I was with the tomatoes so long that I didn't have time to cook! *shrugging shoulders pitifully* I guess we'll have to order in" '...'this chore is great for fluffing'...and, pondering such serious dilemmas as erectile dysfunction.

Okay, I'm just kidding. (Well, not about how I watered them...) What I really noticed was the view towards the highway and how green the plowed and planted front field was and how gorgeous the hills across the highway are and how blessed I am to have that view. And, as I was thinking these things I thought about all of the things of beauty we miss because we don't look up! Like the hills across the highway - not something I see very often because I don't look up.
So, I went inside and grabbed my camera so I could share with you some of the beauty that is all around me. Now, you may not think my "views" are beautiful because we all define beauty in our own way. But, my views are awesome to me - they're bits of life that make me smile (fyi - glitter is a bit of life, too:) and a LOT of them make me smile because they make me think of God and how He is the one that has given us all the beauty that is around us!

I took the picture of the oh, so revered tomato plants, the view towards the highway and now I'm going to show you the view to the left of where I was watering the revered ones - you're looking at the barn area. When I look that direction I am flooded with memories of the boys when they were growing up!
And, so, these are the round bales from one of our hay fields. They'll feed the cattle during this drought and through the winter. The boys and their friends used to climb up on them (the hay bales, not the cows) and play 'keep away' while running down the rows and jumping from row to row! They also make a great background for target practice (so they say).
A close up of some of the barns (you're missing the hay barn - hey, hay barns are important AND they're honkin') and the pens. Oh, my gosh, talk about God's beauty! A lot of the beauty is in the memories of the parties we've had down at the barn - behind the small barn that eventually became my first studio. And also, looking at this area is a reminder that the barn was built in 1890 and that the ranch has been a working ranch owned by the Thomason's since 1890. Wow - now that's vintage and I LOVE vintage!
Oh, this is so cool! I see this beauty every time I take the curve coming up our lane - the wicker settee, fence gate and yard chandelier hanging in the ancient pecan tree. I love this little bit of "me" that you see as you're approaching the house and after you've seen the beauty of the pink bicycles lined up along the fence at our entrance...
See? The yard chandelier! Doesn't it make you smile?

Beauty.
Oops! I need another yard chandelier!
This little sitting area is just outside the fence that runs around our yard. It's crazy *meaning more pink on a ranch*, but it's so me:)
As I was walking around the front yard to get this one last picture for you I passed the front door....my lovely front door that no one ever sees because everyone that comes to our house uses my studio door (go figure). I think my front door is beautiful and I was so glad I looked up and saw it as I walked by!
Ahhh, my favorite place in our yard....the swing. I love to sit in it and gently rock back and forth as I look out at my favorite view.
I always look up and see this view! It's my special place where I can be calmed when agitated, blessed when I am troubled, cooled down after a long bike ride, and simply at peace while I am gently rocking back and forth.
You know what? There is beauty all around us; we simply need to look up from our busy-ness and see it! Even a parking lot is a thing of beauty to me if I find a rusty smished bottle cap! Texture, color, faded color, vintage buildings, children, all of God's people, and let me not forget the horizon - what do you see when you look towards the horizon?

I simply adore all of you, my readers. There's such beauty in your comments.

xoxo,

YIKES!! God is so amazing!............As I was finishing up this post, I got a text message from my dear, dear friend, Tina, asking for prayers for her grandchild, Sage, who may have meningitis. Knowing that so many of my readers are believers I have decided to post about this since God sent me the text (through Tina. duh) while I was in the middle of a post. It's obvious that he wants as many prayers warriors as I can gather up to pray for Sage.

So, you that are pray-ers, hit your knees.
No, wait.
Don't hit your knees if you're over 45 years old.
If I hit my knees I'd be in a wheelchair............for life.
Just stop what you're doing right now (reading my post) and pray for Sage and Tina and all that love that little wee one.
If you would like to leave a message of encouragement for Tina, her blog address is:
http://www.tina-wright.blogspot.com/ . Just leave a comment on her last blog entry - I don't know what it's about, oh, dear....oh, I'm sure it's totally appropriate! Just leave your comments there on her last entry:)
I know she'd appreciate the encouragement, even if you don't know her!!
Y'all are great! I love you!!
UPDATE: Sage did NOT have meningitis! Praise the Lord!! God is faithful and is taking care of Sage - I forget what he had (no surprise there) but he's fine and Tina has been so blessed by y'all's prayers.
Thank you for caring for another blogger - no doubt in my mind that I could count on each of y'all! XOXO

OH, YEAH, BABY, FUN IS RIGHT AROUND THE CORNER!

I had the hardest time deciding what to title this post...there were so many elements to choose from, so I just settled on "Oh, yeah, baby, FUN is right around the corner!" It seems to cover it all in a wide scope kind of way. . .

REGISTRATION FOR THE 2ND ANNUAL PAPER COWGIRL ART RETREAT BEGINS ON MARCH 1ST AT http://www.papercowgirl.blogspot.com/.

This year it's (the retreat) being bumped up and it's going to be amazing! More classes, Vendor's night, shopping at a most incredible scrapbook store, the Hampton Hotel as base, and on and on and on! So, go to the Paper Cowgirl blog, get all the scoop on the classes, shopping, registration information (REGISTRATION BEGINS MARCH 1ST), and, if you can, make your way to the Paper Cowgirl Art Retreat, June 26 - 27!!

Now, I wouldn't be me, would I, if I didn't tell you that I'm teaching one of the classes! So, let's just all say it together. . ."Jan's teaching an amazing class!" LOL

Below is a picture of a canvas I did for my dad a couple of years ago and it gives you a *slight* idea of what my class is about...you'll get more information on the P.C. blog on March 1st and the REAL PROTO-TYPE will be posted there, too.

But, I wanted to give you an idea of what to expect in my class, Home is Where Art Begins. It's going to be so much fun, family themed and I hope to teach everyone at least one thing they don't already know! LOL

That being said, and knowing how wonderful all of the other classes and teachers are, your socks are going to be blessed right off of your feet if you're a part of this amazing weekend!

Thanks for reading my blog! Y'all are simply wonderful!!

XOXO,

A RECIPE FROM MICHIGAN THAT IS QUESTIONABLE AT BEST...heehee

Actually, that's not entirely true..........the title of this post.
The recipe I'm going to share with you IS from Michigan and it WOULD be questionable if it wasn't my mother's recipe (she's a great cook).

The reason it would be questionable is because it's a recipe for Beef-Bean ENCHILADAS and everyone knows that you can't get decent enchiladas in Michigan.............. (please send all complaint letters for that crack to Oprah)

Mom's BEEF-BEAN ENCHILADAS

1 1/2 # ground beef, crumbled (which, in Texas, would mean that you could use axis meat and, also, we wouldn't put "crumbled" in the recipe - that should be a given. Uh, duh.)
1 onion, chopped (I feel I need to tell you that in Texas we would use a red onion - just in case you're a northerner making this dish)
1 - 1# can refried beans (Now, I would buy the refried beans with jalapenos. We can get those in Texas, but I'm not sure you can get them with jalapenos up north or that you could stand them even if you can find them.)
1 t. salt
1/8 t. garlic powder (Now, here's where I have to ask, "why bother?")
1/2 C. canned or bottled TACO sauce (never heard of it, actually. Might just be a Yankee thing. If I can't find it in Texas, I'll use Enchilada sauce.)
1 C. pitted chopped black olives ("pitted"? ya think???)
2 - 10 oz. cans of enchilada sauce (sure hope you can find that taco sauce)
Salad oil
12 corn tortillas (For those of you that are true Yankees, like my sister, Joan, you tend to pronounce this "tor-teel-yas". Now, as I've told Joan, on more than one occasion, that makes her sound purely stupid. The correct pronunciation is "tor-tee-ahs". Practice)

Oh, and, fyi, my family prefers to use flour tortillas and not just because it makes the recipe easier for me to fix either (you don't soften the flour tortillas in oil).

3 C. shredded cheddar cheese (Ladies. Ladies. Ladies. You don't use cheddar cheese when making Mexican food. You use shredded AMERICAN CHEESE. You buy it in a block at the deli and shred it by hand. See??? Kinda scary recipe, huh.)

In a frying pan, saute ground beef and onions until the meat is browned and onions are soft. Stir in beans, salt, garlic powder, taco sauce, and olives; heat until bubbly.
Pour about half of the enchilada sauce into a greased 9 X 13" pan.
If you're using corn tortillas, pour oil into a frying pan big enough to fit a corn tortilla.
Heat and dip tortillas, one at a time, in hot oil to soften; drain quickly and blot with paper towels.
Place about 1/3 up of the meat mixture on each tortilla and roll to enclose filling.
Place, seam sides down, into sauce in pan.
Pour remaining enchilada sauce evenly over tortillas; cover with cheese.

Bake, uncovered, at 350 degrees for about 20 - 25 minutes or until thoroughly heated.

When you serve these, mom always has garnishes - olive slices (redundant), chopped lettuce, diced tomatoes, sour cream and picante sauce (NOT Pace. Please.)

These really are good.
Thank goodness mom has a southern Texas daughter, huh.
So.
Let me know if you like my mom's Enchiladas (in-chee-lah-das - heehee)!
We're leaving in the morning for Texas - PRAISE GOD! - and when we get home, this is probably what Frank's going to want for supper very soon after my arrival - I'll bet he hasn't had any since I left five weeks ago unless my BFF made him some!
So.
Since I don't have a picture of Mexican food, this dish in particular, or a lady cooking, I'm letting you see my kitchen where I'll be fixin my enchiladas this weekend.
I can't wait!!

Thanks for reading my post, ladies. I do so love you!

XOXO,

A SNEAK PREVIEW OF SOME FABULOUS TAGS!

Two previous posts not to miss:

Hi, y'all! I have been trying to get a few things accomplished at my worktable before mom and I load up the car and head for Texas! It seems like I've spent most of my time here working on my computer - necessary, but not the fun part of having two web shops!
These tags and a picture of part of their coordinating envelopes are just to give you a glimpse of what I've been up to besides shopping online. LOL
These first two tags are two of a set of eight that are the same theme, but different looking tags, all with wonderful and different accents - clear as usual, huh!

They'll be listed for sale in my lollishop . . . . .and maybe half of them in my Etsy shop.

This is the front left side of the envelope - I like to do a little something to the envelopes to make the tag and envelope look like a set. *smiley face* Oh, these next tags are so stinkin' cute! There's six of them, they're all different, but they all have a cute little cupcake under the smaller tag on top that can be moved. Isn't that a darling idea? LOL - Okay, I thought it was darling! And, you get a peek of the coordinating envelope that comes with each tag.

These tags, all with wonderful glitter and other great embellishments, will be listed in my Lollishop.

See the "hidden" cupcake on the tag on the left? The cupcake is still hidden on the tag on the right. What a fun surprise!

Well, that was fun! I just love showing you the things I'm working on!
I hope you're having a wonderful moment looking at them...........thanks so much for stopping by!

LIVING IN GRATITUDE

Today one of my dearest blogger friends, Tina of Sweetina, blessed my blog with TWO awards!
I am delighted and humbled to be so highly thought of by one of my readers.
I have been surprised recently, within the last four months or so, shocked, actually, to find readers *that I refer to as "lurkers"* that I didn't even know I had, when they have reached out to me for whatever reason. (I'm pretty sure my h.s. English teacher would be wincing after reading that sentence!)
I have been so blessed by all of my readers, especially the ones I "know" by their comments.
But, every time I post I am also very aware of the readers that choose to remain 'anonymous'.

My blogging is more than an online journal.
It's me sharing my life with you in an attempt to bless you.
My readers enrich my life and are the reason I fight for time to blog.

Thanks, Tina, for the awards, but more importantly, for being such a sweet friend.

THE LEMONADE AWARD is awarded to bloggers who show great attitude and gratitude.

Upon receiving The Lemonade Award, you are to pass it on to other bloggers that you think show great attitude and gratitude.

The authors say that the blogs who receive the following award are exceedingly charming.
This blog invests in PROXIMITY in space, time, and relationships.
These kind of bloggers aim to find and be friends.
They are not interested in prizes or self-aggrandizement (is that a word???).
Their hope is that even more friendships will be made.

Upon receiving these awards, you also pass them on to other bloggers that you think show great attitude and gratitude. They also care more about the relationships made through their blogging then they do awards, prizes or "strokes".

Here are the rules:

1. Put the logos on your blog.

2. Nominate at least 8 blogs which show great attitude and or gratitude.

3. Link to your nominees within your post.

4. Let them know that they have received this award by commenting on their blog.

5. Share the love and link to this post and to the person from whom you received your award.

In going through my list of favorite blogs, ones that bless me when I read them, I choose to pick the bloggers that are so good at staying in touch with me and my blog, even when I'm so busy with life that I feel like I'm neglecting them. What I'm trying to say is that these bloggers don't read my blog because I read theirs. They keep up with me because they have great attitude and live their lives in gratitude - and keeping up with me is one of the blessings that comes from the way that they live their lives.

Clear as mud, huh.

MY CHOICES TODAY:

1. Tina of Glue on my Fingers

2. Cindy of Yapping Cat Studio

3. Mindy of Primitiques 'N Poetry

4. Rhonda of Rhonda Mum

5. Chas of The Wild Raspberry

6. Pam of Pam Warden Art

7. Teresa of Cedar Junction Studio

8. Sally of My Little Blog Spot

Congratulations to all!!!

(I understand if anyone awarded does not accept awards or tags on their blogs. If that is the case, then simply know that you are very appreciated and adored!) *as are all of my readers!!*

XOXO,

. . .Jan

THERE'S AN ART RETREAT IN TEXAS!!

"I know!!" An art retreat IN TEXAS!!
NOT in Oregon!
NOT in Virginia!
NOT in Washington!
NOT in California!
IN TEXAS!!

You get it..........I can get to THIS retreat in my CAR with my top down (not "my top", my car's convertible top)

Tina Wright of Glue on my Fingers and Cindy Mayfield of Yapping Cat Studio are the brains behind this retreat. This year is the Paper Cowgirl's second year - last year was a HUGE success so they really didn't have a choice, did they?

I say they're the "brains" but they're really more than that........they came up with the idea (bless you, girls!), set the date, found the site, the teachers, advertised, made name tags (and they were cuh-yoot!), did all of the work that is involved in putting on an art retreat, and believe me, there is a LOT of work! And to say that it was a success would be saying too little! IT WAS A HOOT!!! Oh, and the most fun, delightful women attended - really, they were wonderful and I hope every one of them comes back this year!

This year's retreat is June 26th and 27th, with two full days of fabulous classes taught by outstanding teachers, a glorious vendor's night, access to one of the most amazing scrapbook stores I've ever had the pleasure of spending Frank the Tank's money, yummy food and shopping!

I know the amount of planning that will be put in by Tina and Cindy will make this the best little whorehouse, oh, wait, *yikes!* the best little art retreat in Texas.

So, whether you're a real Texan or just want to play Texan for a long weekend, check out the Paper Cowgirl blog because there's going to be something for everyone and I want you to come! (I'm teaching a FUN, FUN, FUN class)

Got questions? .....You're a loyal reader - email me - I'll get them answered! polkadotbarn@gmail.com

XOXO,

. . .Jan
